What is Academic Coaching?

Academic coaches work in partnership with students to provide strategies and resources for effective studying.  Academic Coaches realize that students go through with more than just academics.  An Academic Coach will listen to and work one-on-one with students holistically to help them reach their goals and potential.  Academic Coaches can also connect students to relevant campus resources.

Academic Coaches can assist with:

  • Motivation
  • Study skills
  • Test-taking strategies
  • Academic strategies
  • Learning style
  • More!

Schedule an Appointment

Coaching sessions can last between 30 to 45 minutes.  Coaches may provide assessments, tools, resources and much more during a session.  Students can meet with an Academic Coach more than once or continuously throughout the semester.  Responses to appointment requests will not be available during December 24-January 3rd.

To request for an Academic Coaching appointment, complete the form below.  An appointment confirmation will be emailed to you within 24 hours.

Student FAQs

How will I know if I have been referred to SupportNet?

You will receive an email from SupportNet letting you know that you have been referred to SupportNet. You may also receive a phone call from SupportNet staff asking you to set up an appointment with an Academic Coach.

Note: If an instructor has not referred you to the program, but you think you would benefit from meeting with an Academic Coach, you may contact us via phone or email to set up an appointment.

What should I do if I am contacted by SupportNet?

First of all, remember, you are NOT "in trouble." SupportNet is available to assist you with study strategies and provide you with resources on campus that may be helpful to you.

If you are contacted by SupportNet, please respond to us by phone 559.278.8370 or email supportnet@csufresno.edu to set up an appointment with an Academic Coach.

Who will know about my referral?

Maintaining confidentiality is important to SupportNet.  Only your professor, SupportNet staff, special program advisor and any campus resources you have been referred to will know of your referral.  In addition, we follow the guidelines set forth by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, 34 CFR Part 99 (www.ed.gov).

Will my instructor or staff member that referred me know if I have met with an Academic Coach?

SupportNet will not discuss what you spoke about in your sessions; however, your instructor will be notified if you followed up on the referral.

What do I need to do if I have to meet with SupportNet for probation?

You will need to meet with SupportNet at least 3 times this semester (see the dates below for when appointments should be completed).  To schedule an individual appointment with an Academic Coach in SupportNet, use the appointment request above or email us at supportnet@csufresno.edu.  Students can also attend an Academic Success Workshop for one of the required meeting.  See the Academic Success Workshop page for more information.
