Fresno State COVID-19 Emergency Grant Program for International Students; Spring 2021

Fresno State offers emergency grants for CSU students experiencing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  While international and ineligible non-US citizen students are not eligible for aid through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, the campus has allocated other funding to provide emergency financial grants to students.

Who is eligible?

All undergraduate, graduate and professional Fresno State students enrolled as of March 26, 2021 in a Title IV federal financial aid eligible program who are an International student or indicated they are not a US Citizen and have not filed a 2020-2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the University.  The grant amount will depend upon whether you are a part-time or full-time student.

What can the grant fund?

The Emergency grants are designed to support student expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These expenses may include food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child-care expenses. Funds will not apply to any balance you have on your student account.

How will grant amounts be determined?

Grants will be based on enrollment and citizenship information as of March 26, 2021. 

Category 1: Eligibility Criteria – International or non-US Citizen with No FAFSA

Full-Time $300.00

  

Full-time defined as:

Undergraduates, Credentials, and Certificate = 12+ Units
Master's and Doctoral Students = 9+ Units

 

How and when will students receive the grants?

Final recipients and the award amount will be determined based on enrollment as of March 26. Beginning the week of April 5, grants will be disbursed by Student Accounts and refunded to students through Bank Mobile. These funds will not show as a Financial Aid award and do NOT apply to any outstanding tuition/fee charges.

The CSU Cares Program offers emergency grants for CSU students experiencing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While International students are not eligible for aid through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, the campus has allocated other funding sources to provide emergency financial grants to students.

Who is eligible?

Spring 2020 currently enrolled international students pursuing a degree at Fresno State, not enrolled in a completely online program as of March 13, 2020, and have stayed in Fresno after the shelter in place order.

What can the grant fund?

The CARES emergency grants are designed to support student expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These expenses may include food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child-care expenses. Funds will not apply to any balance you have on your student account.

How will grant amounts be determined?

Grants will be determined by the number of units a student is enrolled in for Spring 2020.

How and when will students receive the grants?

CARES emergency financial grants are to be paid directly to students and cannot apply to any outstanding charges.  Grants will be disbursed to BankMobile in the same manner as all refunds to students.  Students should verify all information at BankMobile is up-to-date by going to the ‘BankMobile Refund Selection’ in your Student Self Service.We recommend selecting a bank account to avoid the wait time for a mailed check. 

Disbursement of grants will begin the week of May 4th.
