Academic Probation and Disqualification
As an undergraduate student, you must maintain a 2.00 grade point average (GPA) in both your campus (all coursework taken at Fresno State) and your Total (cumulative) GPA (all coursework attempted at all colleges) to remain in academic “Good Standing”. If either campus or total GPA falls below a 2.00, you will be subject to either “Academic Probation” or “Academic Disqualification” (see descriptions below). If a student is currently on one of the Academic Probation standings and does not meet their contract, they will be placed on Academic Disqualification and dismissed from the University.
Probation: An undergraduate student whose campus or total GPA is less than a 2.00 but above the disqualification range per student level chart. A students campus and total GPA must be above the disqualification range in order to continue into the subsequent semester.
Probation: Disqualification Range: An undergraduate student whose campus or total GPA is less than a 2.00 and in the disqualification range per student level chart. A student is required to increase their campus and total GPA above the disqualification range in order to continue into the subsequent semester.
Readmitted on Probation: An undergraduate student who has been academically disqualified from the university, reapplied and been accepted as a readmitted student at Fresno State. Students are required to earn a minimum 2.50 term GPA in order to continue into the subsequent semester. The student will remain on Readmitted on Probation standing until their GPA is no longer in the disqualification range and is on Probation or Good Standing.
An undergraduate student will be placed on Academic Disqualification if either campus or total (cumulative) GPA fall below the level based on units earned.
- Freshman (29 units or less) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.50;
- Sophomore (30-59 units) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.70;
- Junior (60-89 units) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.85;
- Senior (90 units or higher) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.95;
- Post Baccalaureate (0+ units) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.95.
A student must be placed in one of the Academic Probation academic standings prior to academic disqualification. A student who is academically disqualified from Fresno State must reapply to the university. Please review Steps for Readmission for additional information.
