Community and Regional Planning Certificate of Advanced Study (Online)
Certificate Description (Currently not offered)
The Certificate of Advanced Study in Community and Regional Planning was developed to meet the growing demand for advanced knowledge in community and regional planning in the Central Valley (California). The program consists of five courses that cover the general theories, practices, and ethics of urban planning and its major subfields such as land use, transportation, environment, community development, and housing. The five required courses are distributed in Fall and Spring semesters in each academic year, with each course, finished within 4-6 weeks. The Certificate shall be issued upon completion of all coursework with a
GPA of 3.0 or higher. The program is cohort based. Students are expected to progress and graduate within their matriculated cohort in one year.
Required Courses:
GEOG 201 Foundations in Urban Planning (3 units)
GEOG 202 Land Use Regulations, Laws and Ethics (3 units)
GEOG 203 Community Development and Planning (3 units)
GEOG 204 Environmental Planning (3 units)
GEOG 205 Transportation Planning (3 units)
Admission Criteria:
Enrollment in this Certificate program requires admission to postbaccalaureate standing at Fresno State. Interested candidates shall meet at least one of the following criteria for admission. Applicants must :
1. Be currently enrolled in a master’s degree program at an accredited institution of higher
education.
Or
2. Have already earned a Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education,
Or
3. Have earned an undergraduate degree. A student enrolled in a state-funded post-bachelor
the degree may not concurrently enroll in this Certificate. Such a student will need to finish their
Master degree before beginning the CAS.
