Jordan College & Fresno State welcome world to Tulare ag expo

(February 5, 2016) – Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro and Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology faculty, staff and students will play prominent roles on Tuesday-Thursday, Feb. 9-11, when the World Ag Expo returns to Tulare.

The Jordan College’s Ag Ambassadors will staff an information booth at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport at the airport baggage claim area from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 6-7. The student-run help desk will answer questions about transportation, events and seminars.

The Ag Ambassadors and Jordan College will also host the university’s information expo booth for prospective students, visitors and alumni from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday in the Hilvers Building.

Ag Ambassadors advisors Desi Molyneux, a University Outreach Services counselor, and Dr. Steven Rocca, Agricultural Education associate professor, will be at the booth all three days sharing tips on admission and opportunities within the college.

At the expo booth on Thursday at 10 a.m., the Jordan College will host an “Ice Cream With the Dean” that will feature President Castro, Interim Dean Sandra Witte and other leaders from the college.

Castro and his wife Mary will also appear at the final day of the event that is kicked off from 6:30-8:30 a.m. with the 22nd annual California Agriculture Leadership alumni breakfast

Besides touring various exhibits Thursday morning, President Castro will be interviewed live on the Ray Appleton Show from 11-11:30 a.m. at the KMJ News Talk Radio booth.

Among the 51 seminars offered at the event, Fresno State’s Center for Irrigation will host 10 seminars from 10 a.m. – 2:50 p.m. on Thursday. Each presentation will last 20 minutes and will feature information on innovative methods and products to increase area irrigation efficiency. Bill Green, Fresno State Center for Irrigation Technology education specialist, will also host its mobile education unit exhibit in the PG&E Pavilion.

Dr. Bill Erysian, Jordan College manager of grants and international projects, will take part in a global food security round table at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Heritage Complex banquet hall. The presentation also includes U.S. Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Krysta Harden, California Cattle producer Jesse Larios of Foster Feed Yard, and Gary Van Sickle, California Specialty Crop Council executive director.

The world’s largest agricultural exposition expects to welcome 100,000 visitors from 50 counties to see the latest in farm equipment, chemicals, communications and technology from 1,500 exhibitors on 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space. Click here for more World Ag Expo information .
