Fresno State hosts Red Wave Classic Junior Livestock Show Feb. 6-7

(January 28, 2016 ) – The 23rd annual Red Wave Classic Junior Livestock Show will be held by Fresno State Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 6-7 at the Big Fresno Fairgrounds Carolee Boele Livestock Pavilion.

The department’s biggest event of the spring semester will be hosted by 80 students from the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and gives them experience in junior livestock show preparation and management.

The event is sanctioned by the California Junior Livestock Association and features junior participants under the age of 21 primarily from California while showcasing the Jordan College’s animal sciences and agricultural education program to potential students.

Admission is free to the event sponsored by Farmers Feed and other area companies, and event parking is at the corner of Butler and Chance Avenues. The Fresno State Meat Science Club will serve food each day.

On Saturday, steer showmanship is scheduled for 9 a.m., followed by the meat goat show and lamb showmanship at 10 a.m. and the market beef show at 1 p.m. Sunday showmanship sessions include breeding heifers at 9 a.m. and hogs at 10 a.m.

Red Wave Classic Junior Livestock Show Schedule

Friday, February 5th
8 a.m. Barns available for heifers, steers, lambs and meat goats
6-8 p.m. First official weigh-in of steers, market heifers, lambs and meat goats

Saturday, February 6th
7-9 a.m. Final official weigh-in of all steers, market heifers, lambs and meat goats
9 a.m. All steers, market heifers, lambs and meat goats must be in place
9 a.m. Steer showmanships in age order (Fitting is optional)
10 a.m. Meat Goat Show. Fresno State Futurity class followed by jackpot meat goat classes followed by showmanship classes in age order (goats released after their respective classes and pens cleaned)
10 a.m. Lamb showmanships in age order followed by Fresno State Futurity class followed by jackpot lamb classes (lambs released after their respective classes and after pens cleaned)
1 p.m. Market Beef Show. Prospect followed by progress steers and market heifers in class order (steers and market heifers released after their respective classes and stalls cleaned)
6 p.m. Barns available for hog exhibitors
6-8 p.m. First official weigh-in of hogs and final and only weigh-in of grade heifers
8 p.m. All breeding heifers must be in place. Registration papers must be checked in at the Show Office and grade heifers must be weighed

Sunday, February 7th
7-9 a.m. Final official weigh-in of all hogs
9 a.m. All hogs must be in place
9 a.m. Breeding Heifer showmanships (Fitting is optional) in age order followed by heifer breed shows in class order (heifers released after their respective breed shows and stalls cleaned)
10 a.m. Hog showmanships in age order followed by jackpot hog classes (hogs released after their respective classes and pens cleaned)
