Dr. Susan Pheasant
Dr. Susan Pheasant was hired in 2018 as the 6th Director of the Institute for Food and Agriculture. Her educational background includes undergraduate degrees in Agricultural Economics and Business Administration (WSU) as well as an MBA-Ag Specialization (Cal Poly-SLO) and an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. incorporating ag econ, marketing, education, and rural sociology (WSU) to evaluate how growers make decisions to adopt new technologies and ideas. Dr. Pheasant has consulted with national and international agribusinesses and non-profit organizations to implement change technologies and educational programs, helped fresh fruit/vegetable growers prepare for food safety audits, and conducted 3rd party audits. She is part of a six-generation lineage of apple growers within the USA (primarily Washington State). However, her “friends” fondly describe her as a “world nomad fruit bum.”
Morgan Henson was hired as a student assistant in February of 2020. She is currently a graduate student here at Fresno State. After moving away for a few years, Morgan returned to the valley and recieved her bachelor's degree in agricultural education in May of 2021. She is now pursuing her master's degree in agricultural sciences as well as her teaching credential. Morgan grew up in Clovis and graduated from Clovis East High School in 2016. She was a member of the Clovis FFA chapter and plans to use her degree to become an agriculture teacher somewhere here in the central valley. In her free time Morgan enjoys reading, traveling, gardening, and hiking.
Taylan Kaan Unal
Taylan Kaan Unal was hired in June, 2021 as a Student Assistant. Taylan is from Antalya, Turkey. He came to the United States as a Junior in high school and graduated from Wayland Academy which is located in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Currently, Taylan is a Senior at Fresno State majoring in Business Administration with Entrepreneurship option. His goal is to operate his own business in the future.
Administrative Support Coordinator
Diane Martinez was hired in September 2021 as the Administrative Support Coordinator. She is responsible for the day-to-day administrative office operations and procedures for the institute. She comes to us with a background in academics and has been part of the CSU Fresno family for many years. Her hobbies are, bike riding, yoga and spending time with her family and 3 very young grandsons.
