Beef Laboratories

Purebred Herds

Purebred Herds

Purebred Angus and Charolais herds are maintained on the campus agricultural laboratory and provide students the opportunity to gain experience in the selection, management and marketing of purebred beef cattle.  Cattle produced in these herds are used to provide learning opportunities for numerous other students as part of their laboratory exercises in courses such as introductory animal science, livestock selection and evaluation, animal health, livestock diseases, animal nutrition, beef production and management, and farm animal reproduction.  In addition, students from many high school agricultural programs and community colleges evaluate these cattle as part of their agricultural training.
