Department News

University Recognition

In Spring 2007, our department completed educational training to become more aware of student engagement methods that would enhance intellectual stimulation and applied assessment in our courses.

Community Outreach

The Department of Management faculty, students and staff have partnered with the Community Food Bank! Read more and see photos of service learning projects, faculty training and research, campus food drives, and food sorts.

Entrepreneurship Program Recognition

Three out of the past five years, Entrepreneurship Magazine has named our entrepreneurship program as one of the Top 12 undergraduate programs in the country.

Through support from the Lyles Center and the Coleman Foundation, undergraduate students in our entrepreneurship program are offered applied experience in building their own business ventures.

The Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is one of the top entrepreneurship centers in the country. Since its launch in 2003, the center has developed a track record of inspiring students, faculty, alumni and entrepreneurs to implement their ideas and work toward a successful future.

The Lyles Center is home to a variety of programs, including the Laval Entrepreneur Mentor Program (EMP), the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), Kids Invent!, Innovation Fresno State (IFS), and the Community College Entrepreneur Pathway (CCEP). All of these programs share one similar goal: to develop and implement entrepreneurial education throughout the Central Valley.

shrm-academically-aligned  Human Resource Management (HRM) Program Recognition

Our student Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) chapter is a 12-time National Superior Merit Award recipient (1995-2006) and has won the National Top Ten Student Chapter Recognition award seven years in a row (1998-2006)! Our SHRM chapter strives to sustain this excellence by cultivating a positive learning environment for all undergraduate students interested in HRM. For more information about our SHRM chapter, please contact the Department of Management at (559) 278-2851.

Aligned HR programs around the country are printed in the program directory, and our students are eligible to sit for the SHRM-CP exam before graduation giving them a career advantage as they enter the job market.

In addition to the accolades presented above, undergraduates in our HRM program have successfully competed in State and National competitions that assess the mastery of HR-related knowledge. In particular, our students are two-time National Champions of the SHRM-sponsored HR Games and have won State Championships numerous times

  • National Champions - 2001, 2005

Top Ten Professional Women - 2012

Dr. Julie Olson-Buchanan, former Department Chair of Management, was named as a "Top Ten Professional Woman" in 2012.  For more than 25 years, the Marjaree Mason Center's Professional Women Awards have honored women who have made great strides in their fields while also giving back to the community and serving as positive role models.

Advisory Board

In 2006, we developed a Department of Management Advisory Board with members from the local business community. The Board provides invaluable insights to ensure that our department is meeting the needs of our students, the community, and future employers
