Fresno State Program Director inducted into the Far West Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame

Scott Sailor, EdD, ATC was inducted into the FWATA Hall of Fame during the Annual Meeting of FWATA held in April 2014.  Dr. Sailor has been very involved with FWATA holding various leadership roles over the past two decades.

Fresno State Alum Chris Jamero, MA, ATC (BS-AT '11, MA-Kines/Exercise Science '14) receives public acclaim for his research

Chris Jamero, MA, ATC presented a poster highlighting his research in the area of Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficiency during the Far West Athletic Trainers' Association Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium held in Las Vegas, NV during April 2014.  Awards were presented in various categories and Chris' poster won the Popular Acclaim category meaning it was the favorite as viewed by attendees at the event. Besides a certificate, Chris received a cash prize also.

Students Daniel Stern (AT '12), Mary Portwood (AT '10), and Alum Steven Guerrero, ATC (AT '09)provided athletic training services at the 2010 USA Wrestling National Tournament.

2010 Athletic Training Scholarships Announced

ATP students Joe Alliotti, Chiho Bunden, and Caitlyn Elliott were selected as the 2010 recipients of the Dr. Thomas Thaxter Memorial Scholarship and Janet Lin was awarded the Dr. William Kennedy and Friends Memorial Scholarship.

Congratulations to Megan Nelson ('11) and Andy Taylor ('12) on their selection for induction into the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Phi Kappa Phi is the campus-wide honor society open to all majors who demonstrate uncommon and outstanding academic distinction within their field.

Dr. Scott Sailor, who serves currently as District Secretary, was recently announced as the District Director-Elect.

Athletic Training Faculty Member Showcased in Local Media

Dr. Scott Sailor's use of technology has garnered him numerous internal awards and support along with the appreciation of his students. The Fresno Bee now has highlighted a part of Scott's teaching innovation in a recent front page article. Click The full article is available online. Dr. Sailor was also recognized with the 2006-07 Provost Award for Technology in Teaching.

Fresno State Athletic Training Student Selected for NFL Scholarship

Takuma Hoshiba was selected for an NFL scholarship and intern with the Minnesota Vikings Football Team. More details are available here.

Athletic Training Student Selected for Eminent National Leadership Symposia in Athletic Training.

Christina Orozco was one of 20 athletic training students in the United States chosen to attend an exclusive leadership training program in Florida during May 2007. Full details of the training program are available online.

Fresno State Faculty Member selected as the recipient of the 2007 William F. Noli Outstanding Service Award by the Fresno County Office of Education.

Dr. Sailor has recently been selected to receive the William F. Noli Outstanding Service Award from the Fresno County Office of Education. His selection for this honor is based on his years of support, direction, and service to the Fresno Regional Occupational Programs, particularly those which offer curriculum focusing on athletic training or sports medicine. Dr. Sailor will be presented this award at a banquet being held April 25, 2007.

Central California Sports Medicine Institute receives University Approval

In February 2007, President Welty signed the 110c application to officially approve formation of the Central California Sports Medicine Institute as an ancillary unit within the College of Health and Human Services. This non-profit Institute, formed as a collaborative between the Athletic Training Education Program and Department of Kinesiology, the Department of Physical Therapy, and sports medicine providers in the region, is dedicated to enhancing sports medicine in the Central California Region through research, continuing education, and preventive programs.

Fresno State's Athletic Training Program Proudly Represented at the 2007 Far West Athletic Trainers' Association Annual Symposium

Four current athletic training students presented at the Student Symposium as part of the 2007 FWATA schedule. Undergraduate alumni Lacy Hatfield, ATC, now Graduate Student/Athletic Trainer with University of Kansas was lead author on a clinical case report. The abstract is available online. Graduate alumni, Trevor Winton, MA, ATC, now Instructor/Athletic Trainer at Chapman University presented the results of his master thesis during free communications (funded by FWATA, $1000). The abstract is available online. Robert Pettitt, Ph.D., ATC, CSCS gave two presentations during the general session and was author on three research topics being presented during free communications. Scott Sailor, Ed.D., ATC, District Secretary for FWATA, will present during the Annual Business Meeting and is author on two research topics being presented during free communications. He has also been asked to present during the College/University Athletic Trainers' Committee presentation taking place at FWATA.
