The Central San Joaquin Valley Nursing Hall of Fame

We are pleased to announce the 16th Annual Central San Joaquin Nursing Hall of Fame dinner and induction. This prestigious award honors the distinctive careers of nurse leaders within the seven-county region of the Central San Joaquin Valley. This award is jointly sponsored by the School of Nursing at California State University, Fresno, Sigma Theta Tau International, Mu Nu Chapter Nursing Honor Society, and the Nursing Leadership Coalition of the Central San Joaquin Valley. A Nursing Hall of Fame display with the names of each years honorees is located at the School of Nursing at California State University, Fresno.
Please join us as we induct Dr. Sylvia Miller and Dr. Janine Spencer into the Nursing Hall of Fame.
Dr. Sylvia Miller has an extensive nursing career spanning almost 50 years, beginning when she graduated with her BSN from the Fresno State Nursing Program in 1971. In 1976, she completed a Masters of Science Degree in Nursing with a focus on Medical Surgical Nursing; in 1987 she received a second Master’s degree, with a focus on Education, also from California State University, Fresno. In 1998 she completed her Doctorate of Education from the University of San Francisco. Most recently in 2014, she completed Fresno State’s Family Nurse Practitioner, Post Masters certificate program, and in 2017 she completed the
Advanced Practice Training course for Palliative Care.In addition to her rich educational background, Dr. Miller has had an extensive career which includes many types of nursing care foci and experiences. These experiences include, Medical Surgical nursing, Critical Care, Cardiac Care, Parish Nursing, and Palliative Care. Dr. Miller has also made significant contributions to the education and training of nurses. Dr. Miller has been a nursing faculty member for over 40 years, 20 of those years at the Fresno State, School of Nursing.
Dr. Janine Spencer has over 45 years of nursing career starting when she graduated with her BSN in 1974 from Fresno State, followed by her MSN in Nursing Administration from California Sate University in 1981, and in 2001 she received her doctorate in educational leadership and administration in higher education from the University of Southern California. Dr. Spencer has extensive academia experiences beginning in 1991 to present. She has held many different roles of an instructor starting with part-time faculty, adjunct faculty, assistant professor, associate professor, and currently as Assistant Program Director at California State University, Fresno, School of Nursing. In addition, she served as the RN Program Director at San Joaquin Valley College from 2008 to 2017. From 2017 to present, she is the Baccalaureate Curriculum Coordinator at California State University. From 2018 to present, she also serves as RN to BSN Program Coordinator at Fresno
State.Dr. Spencer is well known in her community due to her involvement in service learning for the students with community partners. She collaborates with many of these partners in placing students for community service learning including the Fresno Rescue Mission, Community Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and the Poverello House.
 
We invite you to attend the dinner to recognize our new inductees on Wednesday September 18, 2019 from 6-8 PM, at Smittcamp House on the campus of California State University, Fresno. The cost of the dinner is $50 per person and tables of 10 are available. A $20 no-show fee will be billed for reservations that are not honored. Seating is limited to the first 90 reservations.
