John Rivington Quinn “Jack” February 8, 1927- June 21, 2012

Jack Quinn, Professor Emeritus for the Department of Criminology died on June 21, 2012. He was 85 years old and never seemed like a day over 25. When he entered a room his energy was magnetic and his kindness never ending. Even when many of his memories were erased by Alzheimer’s, his kind spirit transcended the disease. Jack exhibited extreme courage as his world became more limited and the leader of the family was forced to step aside. Nevertheless, he continued to lead by example with his never ending grace, kindness, humility and humor and because of the disease process, his family learned a different kind of love.

Jack touched the lives of many people throughout his varied work history. He was proud to be a Commander in the Coast Guard Reserve from 1959 to 1987. He was a parole officer and an Administrator from 1958-1969 for the Department of Corrections. A career as a professor of Criminology at Fresno State spanned from 1969 to retirement as Professor Emeritus in 1993. He was not, however, all work and no play. Jack and his wife, Kris, loved to travel which took them to every continent with the exception of Antarctica.

Jack was adored by family and friends. Jack welcomed everyone into his life, treated all with respect and dignity and had a knack for making everyone around him feel as if they alone were the most important person in the room. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Cottonwood Memory Care and to give their deepest and most sincere gratitude to the exceptional care that Jack received from St. Agnes Hospice.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Columba Church on Monday, July 16th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be sent to the Fresno Salvation Army, PO Box 11730, Fresno, CA, 93775 or to St. Agnes Hospice.
