“Using genomic tools and evolutionary approaches to solve microbial problems”

ABSTRACT. My lab works on a large diversity of microbial systems and questions – ranging from plant viruses, to cone snails, methanogens and clinically relevant bacteria. We have a common theme of using genomic data and evolutionary theory to investigate viral and bacterial populations and communities. I will be presenting some of our work on exploiting evolutionary trade-offs and using viruses to combat antibiotic resistance, and some of our work on how plant microbiomes evolve in real time, and how species interactions amongst microbes might influence drought tolerance.
