“Thermodynamics of Black Strings”

Thursday, November 14, 2013
from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
PB 194

After introducing the basics of the general theory of relativity, I will explain Einstein’s field equations and the central role they play in the theory. Black holes are among the most interesting solutions of these equations. The early black hole solutions like the Schwarzschild, Reissner-Nordstrom and Kerr will be introduced and their thermodynamics discussed. Some cylindrically symmetric black objects and their thermodynamic properties will be presented.

To reserve a seat please contact Dr. Douglas Singleton ( or Dr. Carmen Caprau ( by November 13, 2013.

If you need a disability-related accommodation or wheelchair access information, please contact Dr. Douglas Singleton ( or Dr. Carmen Caprau ( Requests should be made at least one week in advance of the event.
