UCLA Disputes Being Ranked "Most Dangerous" in U.S.

"Safety is a priority at UCLA, and we are proud of our record," Phil Hampton, the director of UCLA Media Relations, said in a statement. "To conclude that UCLA is somehow dangerous is a reckless mischaracterization of data," the statement added. Several other California schools made the list, including UC Berkeley (# 3), San Diego State University (# 7), [Fresno State] (#19) and UC Riverside (#24).

Valley briefs: Fresno man named to cancer committee

Jason Bush, 42, has been an associate professor of cancer biology at Fresno State since 2012 and an assistant professor from 2006 to 2012. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute from 2002 to 2006.

David Schecter, a political science professor at California State University, Fresno, was quick to credit Valadao’s skills as a campaigner, his broad appeal and his sensitivity to Hispanic concerns. (Although he is of Portuguese descent, Valadao speaks Spanish and has called for comprehensive immigration reform).

Hanford FFA wins back-to-back cotton state championships

Fresno State held the 55th Annual Cotton Judging State Finals Contest Nov. 3. Hanford FFA had 15 members compete at this contest. The competition requires FFA members to evaluate cotton plants, bolls, seeds and lint, then justify their assessment of these samples through the presentation of a set of oral reasons to a judge.

FYI - That diversity represents a particular challenge for the public school system in educating six million students with such an astonishing array of backgrounds, not to mention the diversity of intelligence, talent and motivation that may be found in any student population, even monochromatic ones.

CSU sees possible enrollment record ahead The fall 2013 application cycle appears to be on pace to set another record for California State University, which has five of its 23 campuses in the Central Valley. As of Nov. 18, CSU had received 368,157 applications an increase of about 7 percent from the same time last year ? and expects that number to nearly double by the time the priority application period closes on Nov. 30.
