Roger George of Roger George Guide Service took Fresno State Athletic Director Jim Bartko and CFO Terry Donoho up shad fishing last week before the water started falling. They caught and released more than 50, then stopped counting. “The water is falling about a half-foot a day, which is changing the bite pretty quickly,” George said. Millerton dropped 4 feet for the week to 570.89 in elevation and 93 percent capacity.

The Spirit team got a big boost in the spring of that year from Fresno State University's Doug Fraley. "He needed a pole for the national championships because one of his broke," Chappell said in a 2008 interview with The Record-Courier. "Lane flew to the competition, took the pole with him, and it just happened to match the right guy at the right time. Fraley went out and won the national championship on the new pole. That got a lot of attention."
