Fresno State Could See First Medical School Not At A University Of California Campus

Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula, D-Fresno, introduced legislation Monday to establish a medical school at Fresno State, which if approved by lawmakers would be the first in the state not at a University of California campus. Arambula voiced interest in Fresno State as a site for a medical school at a meeting in September to discuss health-care needs.

Grover's Corners doesn't have a lot in common with the corner Alison Moritz is standing at late Monday afternoon. A few minutes past 5 p.m., rush hour traffic is clogged at Shaw and Maple avenues, one of the entrances to Fresno State, and the whoosh and hum is a predictably raucous medley of cars, bicycles and pedestrians rushing to the next destinations in busy lives.

For victims of 1948 plane crash, new book recognizes their loss

Sixty-nine years later, on the anniversary of the crash, the release of Hernandez's sixth book by University of Arizona Press helps remember those who lost their lives. The title is a line from Woody Guthrie's much-covered song Plane Wreck at Los Gatos (Deportee) about the crash. We caught up with Hernandez, who is marking the book's publication with a book signing Friday, Jan. 27, at Fresno State, to tell us about this latest project.

The SAS is an international body, composed of scholars and students, whose aims are to promote the study of Armenian culture and society, including history, language, literature, and social, political, and economic questions; to facilitate the exchange of scholarly information pertaining to Armenian studies around the world; and to sponsor panels and conferences on Armenian studies.
The SAS is administered by a seven-member Executive Council and its Secretariat is based at the Armenian Studies Program at California State University, Fresno.
