Cal State Fullerton's Project Rebound aims to make life after prison successful

Project Rebound, a program based out of San Francisco State University, provides mentoring and financial assistance to students who pursue advanced degrees after time behind bars. In addition to Fullerton, it is expanding its operations to CSU campuses in Bakersfield, Fresno, Los Angeles, Pomona, San Bernardino and San Diego.

California Today: Why More Community Colleges Offer Free Tuition

"We got the cool San Francisco Bay weather and we ran through Dublin and Pleasanton and Central California," Stiner said. "It wasn't hot. So, I got very, very fortunate." The Fresno State alum said he's still taking donations for families dealing with autism. One in 68 children are affected by the disorder.

Tulare County's Porterville University Women Scholarship Fund, which received a grant of $2,500, works to promote education equality for women by offering STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) camps. The grant will be used to offer scholarships to minority and low-income eighth-grade girls for a weeklong science and math camp at Fresno State.
