He completed his master’s and bachelor’s degrees at San Francisco State University in 1963 and 1965 respectively. His 1957 publication, “In Black and White” an expression of life in Chinatown during the era, later helped him secure a position as a La Raza studies professor and later as an art professor at California State University, Fresno. He recalls the social unrest of the late 1960s and says it was a tumultuous time.

Passport to the movies: CineCulture brings intercultural awareness through films

Now an official Fresno State class, CineCulture got its start as a campus club. The mission: to raise intercultural awareness through film and post-screening discussions. And since Husain took over as instructor and class adviser in 2008, the course's goal remains the same " offering Fresno State students and the surrounding community a unique, academic opportunity that isn't available anywhere else in the country.
