California Table Grape Growers Award Nine Scholarships

California’s table grape growers recently awarded nine scholarships to students residing in the table grape growing regions of California. These students will be attending universities in the fall of 2012 such as University of California, Los Angeles; University of Southern California; Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo; and California State University, Fresno.

The first in his family to attend college, Gutierrez graduated summa cum laude from Cal State University, Fresno, and received a full scholarship to Stanford, where he earned a master’s in Education.

Applications are now being accepted for the Bulldog Academy. Beginning Sept. 4 through Nov. 6, the Office of Community and Economic Development at California State University, Fresno will host the Academy, which will be held at the university on consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.

Fresno nabs federal neighborhoods revitalization funds

Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin on Thursday said the city has been selected to participate in the federal Building Neighborhood Capacity Program. The program will apply to two Fresno neighborhoods: Southwest and El Dorado Park, west of Fresno State's Bulldog Stadium.
