Talk by Afro-Cuban Poet Georgina Herrera

“Viviendo la herencia del cimarrón: raza y rebelión en Cuba” / "Living the Legacy of the Cimarrón: Race and Revolution in Cuba"

Friday, March 4th

Georgina Herrera (1936-, Matanzas, Cuba) will discuss her work as a writer in the island, share her own experiences as a black woman in pre- and post-revolutionary Cuba and offer social commentary about race relations in her country. Talk will be in Spanish with interpretation into English provided by Dr. Paula Sanmartín.

Herrera will read a selection of her poems from the latest bilingual edition of her poetry, Always Rebellious/ Cimarroneando (Cubanabooks, 2014).
Dr. Paula Sanmartín will read Herrera's poems in English.
