Driver-less Vehicle Rides on campus; Guest Speaker: CEO, Varden Labs, talks “state of autonomous transportation” Feb. 23 & 24

In recognition of engineers all over the world, Lyles College of Engineering will commemorate National Engineers Week with guests from Varden Labs – developers of the autonomous or “self-driving” shuttle. The demonstration is part of a series of events hosted by the Lyles College to commemorate National Engineers Week, Feb. 21 to 27.

Fresno State engineering students, President Joseph I. Castro and Victor E. Bulldog III will take rides in a self-driving, electric shuttle at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, outside the Engineering East building on campus.

Students, faculty and staff are invited ride in the shuttle
(Outside of Henry Madden Library)
Tuesday, Feb. 23 between 2 and 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 24 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Varden Labs will gather information from passengers for their pilot research project which focuses on testing the vehicle in “real world” scenarios to determine the long-term applications of the shuttles. The shuttle can reach speeds of up to 25-miles-per-hour, but will be going as fast as 10 miles-per-hour for the pilot project.
