Subject: OfficeMax Auto-Substitution Program

The CSU Presidents have been exploring a variety of projects designed to reduce overhead expenses. It has been determined that the CSU could save several hundred thousand dollars annually by engaging in the OfficeMax auto-substitution program.

As a result, the Chancellor’s Office has initiated a CSU system-wide adoption of the OfficeMax auto-substitution program, effective October 1. The new program will automatically select substitutions for approximately 1,700 products with a lower-cost equivalent—often an OfficeMax or generic brand item—that has the same fit, form and function as the higher cost item. An example of a product substitution listing can be found at: ... Flyer.docx

There is not an “opt-out” option for the auto-substitution program. However, if you find that an equivalent item is of significantly inferior quality, please notify the Procurement Office and we will investigate. Unless pre-approved by Procurement Office, purchases for office products will not be allowed on the Procurement Credit Card (ProCard or PCard) and will not be reimbursed through Direct Pay for personal purchases.

The Chancellor’s Office will conduct an ongoing review of the program to ensure the needs of the campuses are being adequately met. For more information about the OfficeMax Auto-Substitution Cost Savings Program please go to: [link=][/link]
