Do you have an old cell phone in need of a new home? The Department of Public Health at Fresno State has partnered with the Hope Phones campaign in their efforts to recycle just 1% of the estimated half a million phones disposed every day in the US. Hope Phone utilizes resources gathered through used cell phones to outfit 1 million health workers, improving the lives of 50 million people while reducing hazardous waste in our communities responsibly and providing a real public health benefit abroad.

Believe it or not, your old cell phone can save lives!!!! For many women in the developing world, connecting to the care and information they critically need- especially in cases of emergencies- can truly mean the difference between life and death. And hard working health care providers lose precious time traveling to patients in rural areas who could otherwise be reached by phone.
Hope Phones helps community health workers connect distant patients to a medical clinic. When you recycle a used cell phone through the Hope Phones campaign, their recycling partner assigns a value to that phone that is transferred to the Hope Phones account so that they can acquire appropriate technology for the field. A $10 cell phone will give 50 families access to emergency medical care, health information, transport services, and clinic resources. The average donated phone in the US will allow Hope Phones to purchase 2-3 cell phones for the field. Smartphones can yield 5-10.

We take ANY phone – working or not, and don’t need chargers or accessories. Hope Phones recycling partner erases all data through a certified and secure process. Bring your used cell phones to the Department of Public Health Office in McLane Hall Room 184.
