Electrical infrastructure project look ahead

Postby vtaylor » Fri Mar 13, 2015 2:27 pm

Construction activities for the next few weeks include:

March 16 and 17 – The removal of trees that will be impacted by construction proceeds to the area between Jackson and Woodrow Avenues on the North side of Barstow. A thorough inspection of each tree earmarked for removal confirmed that no wildlife will be endangered or displaced. A tree replacement plan is included as part of the scope of this project and will occur after construction in this area is completed.

The requirement to remove the trees is also part of the campus master plan to widen Barstow to include a future bicycle lane. Consultation regarding the tree removal and replacement landscape plan has occurred with the Arboretum Subcommittee and the Campus Planning Committee.

March 18 – Installation of underground electrical lines along the north side of Barstow. The sidewalk on the north side of Barstow between Campus Drive and Jackson Avenues will be temporarily closed in segments and westbound traffic on Barstow between Cedar and Jackson Avenues will be reduced to one lane. Barricades and signage will redirect pedestrians and traffic. A safety flagger will be present to guide traffic and pedestrian flow near and around construction areas as needed.

April 13 – In order to relocate an existing gas line at the new electrical substation south of Barstow, east of Jackson Avenue, it will be necessary to temporarily shut-off gas service to several buildings between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Building occupants have been informed.

As a reminder:

Notifications – Updates on construction progress, expected power outages and traffic and pedestrian disruptions will be sent by, but not limited to: campus email, Bulletin Board, fliers, The Collegian, news release and Twitter (@FSprojectcoord).
