President's Reflections November 5-11, 2012

November 5-11, 2012

This has been a very emotional week. Monday started off badly as the sun blinded me as I was turning on to Shaw Avenue and I struck a student crossing the street. It was a horrifying moment, and fortunately the student only had minor injuries. It certainly drove home the importance of remembering how much pedestrian traffic there is around our campus.

The remainder of the week was much better with the news of the passage of Proposition 30. Congratulations to everyone who worked hard in support of this proposition. I shared a video message with the University community on Wednesday afternoon and outlined the process we will follow to make some budget decisions for this and next year. The message can be found at You Tube.

I was also touched by the receipt of a special award for Philanthropic Leadership from the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and a Legacy Award from the Business Journal. These awards are a tribute to the great work of our faculty, staff, and administrators over the years.
