This has been a fast-paced week. The intensity in anticipation of Election Day continues to build. I hope everyone is making plans to vote.

Monday, October 22

Among the activities of the day were:
  • Spoke at the opening ceremony for the Asian Pacific Conference on Accounting Issues.
  • Participated in a conference call with the Urban Serving Universities board, upon which I serve.
  • Participated in a conference call to prepare for a presentation to the AASCU conference next week.
  • Attended the reception and dinner gala for the Asian Pacific Conference. Professor Ali Peyvandi did an excellent job organizing and coordinating this event on behalf of the Craig School of Business.
Tuesday, October 23
  • Participated in a conference call to discuss the Board of Trustees agenda item in November to establish Cal State Online.
  • Returned to Fresno.
Wednesday, October 24
  • Participated in a call with NCAA President Mark Emmert to discuss the upcoming NCAA Board meeting.
  • Attended the Business Forum sponsored by Fresno Pacific University, featuring Bob Burg as the speaker.
  • ASI President Montejano regarding several student issues.
  • A candidate for the co-director position at CVELI.
  • Vice President Smits to discuss several Advancement matters.
  • Hosted a luncheon for faculty members. Among the issues discussed were course redesign efforts, faculty hiring, establishing diverse pools for positions and cohort hiring.
  • Taped a message for World AIDS Day.
  • Representatives from Administrative Services and Athletics to discuss plans for Save Mart Center arena builders renewals.
  • Provost Covino to discuss several Academic Affairs matters.
  • Academic Senate Chair Lynn Williams to discuss several campus matters.
  • Taped a video in support of the California State Employees Charitable Campaign.
  • An artist to discuss his work.
Thursday, October 25
  • Convened meeting of the Fresno Business Council Executive Committee.
  • Vice President Smits and Associate Vice President Clark to discuss several major campaign prospects.
  • A prospective donor to the College of Health and Human Services and Director of Development Dana Lucka to discuss college needs.
  • Mountain West Associate Commissioner Henry to discuss the agenda for the upcoming NCAA Board meeting.
  • Leticia Cano to discuss Centennial Society events.
  • Call with a member of the Cal State Online Board.
  • Candidate for the Associate Director of Athletics position.
  • Vice President Teniente-Matson to discuss several Administrative Services matters.
  • Several community leaders.
  • Spoke at the College of Arts and Humanities State of the College event.
  • Hosted several Fresno State alums and friends at the Fresno State winery. John Giannini did an excellent job explaining the program and leading a tour of the winery.
Friday, October 26
  • Chaired meeting of IETCC. The major agenda item was the review of the proposed technology strategic plan. There will be several meetings with stakeholder groups this fall to review the proposed plan.
  • Recorded radio spots in support of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
  • Professor Victor Torres and friends about a benefit to fund a scholarship in honor of Ernesto Martinez.
  • Phone call with Dean Robert Harper to discuss a gift proposal for a major donor.
  • Phone call with an individual seeking support through the California Health Care Foundation.
  • Call with a member of the Cal State Online Board.
  • Attended and spoke at the Ag One Wine Tasting event at the Fresno State Winery.
Saturday, October 27
  • Played golf with one of our Pearson partners who was in town to meet with Craig School representatives to discuss Cal State Online opportunities.
  • Watched the Fresno State vs. New Mexico football game. After a slow start, the Bulldogs responded with a great victory. Congratulations to everyone.
  • Sharon and I joined friends and Fresno State supporters for a special dinner.
Sunday, October 28

Flew to New Orleans to attend the annual meeting of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
