The campus community is invited to a brief Fourth of July flag raising ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Monday, July 4, at the Save Mart Center where an historic American Revolution Bicentennial (1776-1976) flag that was flown over the White House will be presented and posted.

The 4-by-6 foot flag was gifted to President Joseph Castro and the University this week by alumnus Dr. Elvin C Bell, retired U.S. Air Force colonel and Army National Guard brigadier general and former Fresno City Councilman and mayor pro tem.

The Fresno State Police Department will conduct the 15-minute ceremony at the SMC flag poles facing Shaw Avenue between Woodrow and Chestnut. Fresno State music student Ryan Vance will perform Reveille.

The flag will be posted daily at the Save Mart Center until Friday, July 9, and then will be preserved in the President’s Office and displayed on special occasions.

July 4, 2016 marks the 40th anniversary of the American Revolution Bicentennial.
