August 20-26, 2012

This has been a very different week as we began the fall semester. After a full day on Monday, I spent two days in Long Beach to participate in the formal announcement of Pearson eCollege as our partner in the Cal State Online project. This effort provides the opportunity to expand access to offerings in the California State University.

As the week ended we spent time in La Quinta for a nice, long weekend.

Monday, August 20

Among the activities of the day were

• Cabinet, at which issues discussed included the CSU awareness campaign for Proposition 30, campus opening activities, revised structure for Campus Planning and its subcommittees, and several other issues.

• Vice-President Paul Oliaro to discuss several Student Affairs matters.

• Provost William Covino to discuss several Academic Affairs matters.

• Vice-President Cynthia Teniente-Matson to discuss several Administrative Services matters.

• Spoke to the Craig School of Business faculty at their opening luncheon.

• Conference call with Mountain West Conference Board of Directors.

• Athletics Director Thomas Boeh to discuss several Athletics matters.

• Two individuals involved in a start-up pharmacy school.

• First Doctorate of Physical Therapy White Coat Pinning Ceremony for new doctoral students in physical therapy.

Tuesday, August 21

• Left Fresno early in the morning to attend the CSU Executive Council meeting. Discussed were Cal State Online, the alternatives to addressing the $250 million cut if Proposition 30 does not pass and several other issues.

• Joined CSU Presidents for an informal dinner.

Wednesday, August 22

• Executive Council meeting in the morning addressing governmental relations and several academic issues.

• Convened meeting of the Cal State Online Advisory Board.

• Announcement of Pearson eCollege as partners for Cal State Online venture.
