Spring break has ended and we now turn our attention to the end of the semester activities, which will be upon us shortly.
Congratulations to the Alumni Association, which won two local ADDY awards for their Grad-in-a-Box and PAW-Parent Alumni Weekend projects.
Congratulations to Director Mike Dozier and his Office of Community and Economic Development staff for winning an ADDY award for their 2012 San Joaquin Valley Partnership award.
Congratulations to student Michael Eberhard, president of the Interfraternity Council, who won the North-American Interfraternity Conference Undergraduate Award of Distinction.

The Commission on Credentialing notified us that our Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential and Reading/Language Arts Advanced Certificate have both met the required standards for credentialing. Congratulations to Dean Paul Beare and his colleagues.

Monday, April 1

Meet meetings and activities included:
  • Reflecting on the legacy of César Chávez on our valley, state and nation.
  • Conference call with the executive committee of the Mountain West Conference Board of Directors.
  • Began to the process of packing at the University House.
  • Hosted major University benefactor and her family for dinner at the University House.

Tuesday, April 2
  • Cabinet, at which the issues discussed included a report from the CSU Board of Trustees meeting, my response to the Level A Budget Committee, lactation stations for the campus, spring break infrastructure repairs and STAR Day.
  • Attended the dissertation defense of Vice-President Cynthia Teniente-Matson.
  • Dr. Hironaka-Juteau regarding the Campus Diversity Plan.
  • Attended a memorial service for Norma Cox.
  • Attended and spoke at annual Faculty Emeriti Luncheon.
  • Vice-President Smits regarding several Advancement items.
  • Associate Vice-President Debbie Astone and Vice-President Teniente-Matson regarding several Auxiliary items.
  • Attended annual dinner of the Soararsis, a group that advocates for our national parks and supports scholarships for students in forestry and related areas of study.

Wednesday, April 3
  • Athletics Director Thomas Boeh regarding several Athletics items.
  • Provost William Covino regarding several Academic Affairs items.
  • Convened meeting of the Administrative Roundtable.
  • Webinar with the American Association of Schools Colleges and Universities Task Force on Making Public Higher Education a State Priority.
  • Conference call meeting with the California Campus Compact Executive Board.
  • Attended meeting of the Fresno State Foundation Board Executive Committee.
  • Hosted a donor appreciation event for University donors of $2,500 and higher at the new Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market.

Thursday, April 4
  • Conference call with Cal State Online Executive Director Ruth Black.
  • Attended meeting of the Senior Campaign Leadership Team.
  • Vice-President Oliaro regarding several Student Affairs items.
  • Attended a press conference to announce the first baseline report for Project Strive, which is sponsored by the Fresno Compact.
  • Attended meeting for the March of Dimes Board of Directors.
  • Attended Board meeting of the Central Valley Higher Education Consortium.

Friday, April 5
  • Attended meeting of the Fresno Compact Board of Directors.
  • Videotaped a presentation for the annual United Way awards event.
  • Videotaped a presentation in honor of retiring WASC President Ralph Wolff.
  • Vice-President Teniente-Matson on several Administrative Services items.
  • Hosted luncheon for faculty members. Discussion topics were the faculty recruitment and search process, release time, governance and several other issues.
  • Vice-President Teniente-Matson and Associate Vice-President Clint Moffitt regarding budget items.
  • Leadership of Univision to discuss possible partnership projects.
  • Students who are undertaking fundraising efforts for Humanics and civic engagement programs.
  • Executive Coordinator of Events Rosie Tapia and Director Leticia Reyna Cano regarding upcoming events.
  • Along with Dean Andy Hoff, welcomed participants to the University House for the annual College of Health and Human Services Heroes Reception.
  • Flew to Atlanta.

Saturday, April 6
  • Attended activities sponsored by NCAA as part of the Final Four.
  • Attended Final Four semi-final games.

Sunday, April 7
  • Hosted a reception for Atlanta area alumni. We have several very prominent alums in this area.
