College of Arts and Humanities Commencement

To the Graduates of the Class of 2020 and Class of 2021:

On behalf of the Interim Dean, Interim Associate Dean, faculty and staff of the College of Arts and Humanities, I wish to congratulate you, the Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 on achieving this important milestone in your life!!

My name is Cathie Salanitro. I work in the Dean’s Office in the College of Arts and Humanities. I am writing to give you the updated information I have regarding the Commencement ceremony as of today, April 1, 2021.

If you have not yet heard, Interim President Jiménez-Sandoval announced last week that the university will be offering small scale, in-person commencement ceremonies at Bulldog Stadium on May 14, 15, and 16 to celebrate the graduates of both the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021. The university will follow state and local public health guidelines to ensure the safety of our graduates and the community, and should conditions within Fresno County change, we may have to alter these plans.

At this time, we know that the College of Arts and Humanities and the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology will have a joint commencement ceremony at 7:00pm on May 15, 2021 in Bulldog Stadium.

A total of 1,400 students will be allowed to participate in the in-person ceremony. In order to keep track of the number of participants entering the field, we are asking all graduates interested in participating in the in-person ceremony to go to the Commencement website (listed below) and pre-register BY FRIDAY, APRIL 9, 2021.

Each participating graduate will be able to invite 4 people to the in-person Commencement Ceremony. They will sit in pods in the stadium. We are still working out the details regarding the distribution of the tickets. Tickets cannot be shared with other students as each pod only holds four (4) people and in keeping wit the state and county public health guidelines, different family groups cannot be mixed together.

The College of Arts and Humanities has a limited quantity of stoles for sale. The stoles sell for $35.00 each and include the cost of shipping. Once purchased, the stoles will be mailed to the home address on file with the university. Please allow 10 working days for delivery of the stoles. The stoles will be available for sale through May 3, 2021 or until they sell out. You can order your stoles here.

If you have earned Honors Cords, we will mail them to the home address on file with the university. If you applied for graduation in Spring 2021, your GPA from the Fall 2020 semester will be used to determine your eligibility to graduate with Honors. Your Fall semester Fresno State and Cumulative GPA’s must both be 3.5 or greater to receive the Honors Cords.

As you can imagine, there is much planning still being done to make this ceremony a unique and memorable one for each graduate. We ask for your patience as we finalize these plans. Further updates will be posted on the web page for the College of Arts and Humanities as they become available.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you again for your patience!
