Lessons from the Lounge - Using & Teaching Wikipedia: An Open Discussion
Fri., Mar 9, noon - 1 p.m., Center for Faculty Excellence Lounge
Wikipedia is often the number 1 source that any researcher may use to find out more
information on a particular topic. However, it is also shunned and avoided. This discussion
will cover how Wikipedia can be used as a teaching source to reinforce critical thinking
and research practices. A librarian will present best practices to engage with your
students to learn more about the biases and lack of information in Wikipedia, and
how to strengthen the entries through authoritative and scholarly works.
Lessons from the Lounge - GE Information Meeting
Fri., Mar 16, 10 - 11 a.m., Center for Faculty Excellence Lounge
Beginning in Fall 2018, all faculty who teach GE courses will be required to indicate
a minimum of one assignment that directly aligns with and measures one of the GE student
learning outcomes for the appropriate Area (GE A1, A2, B4, C2, etc.). This workshop
will give background on the GE ePortfolio requirement for all incoming students as
of Fall 2018, which led to the new requirement for syllabi. This workshop will also
give specific examples of the minor changes necessary to faculty syllabi to fulfill
this requirement. APM 215, a new section at the end of the existing section on GE,
describes all aspects of the new GE ePortfolio requirement.
