Clinton Global Initiative University

Commitments

Commitments to Action, a unique feature of the Clinton Global Initiative, translate practical goals into meaningful and measurable results. CGI U commitments address specific challenges across CGI U's five focus areas. Commitments are new, specific, and measurable initiatives that can be small or large, local or global, financial or nonmonetary in nature.

Past CGI U commitments have included:

  • a soccer ball that generates energy
  • a mobile app that identifies counterfeit drugs
  • a lightweight waterbag that provides drinkable water in disaster zones
  • a solar-powered telemedicine terminal
  • a post-conflict sports league
  • a job training initiative for survivors of brothel slavery
  • a low-cost wheelchair designed for the developing world
  • a mentoring program for first-generation college students in STEM fields

In order to apply to attend the CGI U meeting, each student or student group must develop and submit a Commitment to Action. Since the inaugural CGI U meeting at Tulane University in 2008, students have made more than 4,800 Commitments to Action.
