Assistance by a trained peer or professional counselors during and after the crisis can make a major difference in the victim/survivor's emotional adjustment. Counseling is confidential within the limits of mandatory reporting laws. The victim/survivor has the right to ask about reporting requirements before revealing specifics. An advocate may be of assistance in this process and is not subject to mandatory reporting laws.
