Eclectic, Arsty, Fun

Just a few words that describe the Tower District culture.

"Down in the Tower it's easier to be accepted with so much that's going on," said Aileen Rodriguez Imperatrice, artist and art consultant. "A lot of creative energy gravitates here."

There is plenty to do in the Tower District. Art galleries, bookstores, theater shows and antique shops line the streets and are open daily.

"[The Tower District] is always alive," said Sandra Blum, a worker a Retro Rag vintage clothing store. "There's always people doing things down here of all ages."

In the Tower you'll find a diversity of people from all backgrounds and attitudes. To be frank, this area doesn't care about the 'in-thing.' It prefers to create it's own identity.

Actors and actresses often end up at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theatre and Second Space Theatre, which both cater to the musical theater buffs in the Valley.

Ashley Hyatt, box office worker and performer, said it's the high quality of the performances that attract people to Roger Rocka's' shows.

"We have the best performers in Fresno," said Hyatt.

When it comes to promoting community activities like concerts and art shows, Blum said that the people in the District are supportive.

"Every store is willing to support and advertise [the Tower area]," Blum said. "We help each other out."

It's that type of friendly atmosphere and outreach that keeps the Tower going.
