Faculty and Staff FAQ
- I have a large section(s) of students. Can you accommodate large classes?
Yes. We have accommodated sections as large as 250 students and 500 students in one day. Although we have the maximum capacity of 64 seats available at any given time, our facility is a first-come-first-serve facility allowing students to test at any given time during operation hours on this basis. It is highly recommended that students test earlier in the exam window since most students wait until the last day to complete their exam.
- What is the ideal time window for scheduling an exam in your facility?
Typically, faculty schedule exams within a 2-5 day window, however it is up to the discretion of each faculty member and the capacity of our facility at certain times during the semester. We recommend against scheduling an exam within a one day window. This defeats the purpose of allowing students to test when their schedule permits.
- Who proctors and handles the exams?
Only a staff member handles the exams besides the students taking their exam. Exams remain in a locked filing cabinet and students do not have access to them. Student Assistants proctor the exams in the testing room at all times. Irregularities and suspected cheating is reported to the staff person who oversees the facility and is present during operating hours.
- Do you have a problem with cheating in your facility? For example, are students sharing answers after leaving the exam?
We are continuing to do research on this issue. It is impossible to tell what information students share with each other when they leave our facility. From the analysis we have conducted thus far, students appear to be not cheating. Evidence shows students on the first day perform significantly better on exams that students on subsequent days, which indicates students do not significantly share test information/answers. In addition, you can choose whether students’ scores are given immediately after the exam or if they must wait until the exam closes. This will help to limit the amount of information students can share.
- Can I schedule all of my exams for the entire semester?
Yes. In fact, we highly recommend doing so. We can better plan our operational requirements, faculty can include testing windows in their syllabi and students are better informed so they can plan accordingly.
- Do you grade exams?
Yes. We can grade objective/multiple choice exams, not essay-only exams, although we can still proctor essay-only exams. A special testing center scantron form (not from the Kennel Bookstore) with the answer key completed is needed for the multiple-choice grading option. A full report and exam analysis is included with the service.
- Does this service cost anything?
No. This service is completely free to faculty and students.
