Crystal

Crystal Benavidez

Crystal Benavidez is a Veteran University Community Builder under the VA Work Study Program at Student Support Services Veterans located in Lab School, rooms 9 and 10. Crystal is a Navy Corpsman. She was active duty for eight years and currently serving as a reservist. She was recently deployed to NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Her major is Communitive Disorders with an emphasis in Speech Pathology. As a community builder, She plans on being a source of information for fellow veterans who are transitioning to Fresno State.

George

George Cardoso

George Cardoso is a Veteran University Community Builder under the VA Work Study Program at Student Support Services Veterans located at Lab School in rooms 9 and 10. George served in the United States NAVY from 1999-2011 and was in the reserves at NAS Lemoore from 2012-2016. His military occupation as a Logistics Specialist allowed him to develop his communication skills and taught him how to effectively work with a lot of different people. He deployed four times in support of OIF/OEF including a twelve month tour which allowed him to serve in countries such as Bahrain, Kuwait, and U.A.E.

George is a Criminology major with an emphasis in Corrections. He plans on applying to the Graduate program to obtain my MS in Rehabilitation Counseling. His professional goal is to be employed either through the Veterans Administration or California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation as a counselor.

George is committed to providing the tools and resources that his fellow veterans need in order to excel academically and graduate.

Josh

Josh Delano

Josh Delano is a Veteran University Community Builder under the VA Work Study Program at Student Support Services Veterans located at Lab School in rooms 9 and 10. Josh is a Navy veteran. He served on active duty for over 11 years as an aviation mechanic and additionally served four deployments into combat areas. He is an electrical engineering student and has a good understanding of what is expected at the college level. He is also very resourceful. Josh plans on being a source of information for fellow veterans who are transitioning to Fresno State.

Jose

Jose Maldonado

Jose Maldonado is a Veteran University Community Builder under the VA Work Study Program at Student Support Services Veterans located at Lab School in rooms 9 and 10. Jose is an Air Force Reserve veteran. He has been a reservist since 2011 as a member of the security forces. His educational goal is to earn a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology in under 3 years. Jose is always willing to mentor new students, answer questions and enjoys meeting people.

Tiffany

Tiffany Marsh

Tiffany Marsh is the outgoing President of the Student Veterans Organization at Fresno State for the 2015-2016 academic year. Tiffany is a Marine Corps Veteran. In 2014, she was involved in the Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force. Tiffany has completed her undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Arts in Communicative Disorders and Deaf Studies with an emphasis in Deaf Education. Tiffany hopes to obtain her commission into the United States Navy after graduation to pursue a career as a pilot.

Jhoana

Jhoana Mendez

Jhoana Mendez is a Student Assistant for the Veterans Services office in the California State University, Fresno under the Veterans Affair Work Study program. She is also the Treasurer Officer for the Student Veterans Organization at Fresno State. Jhoana enlisted in the United States Army in 2012 and recently deployed with the 40TH Combat Aviation Brigade to Kuwait, where she was stationed for a year. She is a Criminology Major in the emphasis of Forensics Behavior Sciences, and she has been a member of the Fraternity on Fresno State, Phi Omega Alpha. Jhoana appreciates the service that she has received from the Veterans Services at Fresno State, and would like to return the favor by helping other students in similar situations. She is also very enthusiastic in helping expand a Veterans Resource in the new University Student union.

Francisco

Francisco Rosas

Francisco Rosas is a Graduate Assistant for the Veterans Services office at California State University, Fresno under the VA Work Study Program. He is also the Public Affairs Officer for the Student Veterans Organization at Fresno State. He enlisted in the United States Army as an Infantryman in 2004. While serving in Iraq in 2005, he was wounded from an IED blast and was awarded the Purple Heart. Many surgeries later, he was medically retired by the U.S. Army at the age of 23. Thanks to his GI Bill, he returned to school in the fall of 2009. Francisco earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from CSU, Fresno in 2014. He is now the first to graduate from college within his immediate and extended family. He is currently working on his Master of Arts degree in Education with the option in Higher Education Administration and Leadership. Francisco enjoys working with other student veterans to help them navigate the higher education system, while assisting them with their academic goals, aspirations, and career interests. He looks forward to completing his degree in May 2017, to focus full-time on serving other student veterans.

Cody

Cody Sedaño

Cody Sedaño enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at 19. From 2010 to 2012 he was an Amphibious Assault Crew Chief. From 2012 to 2013 was attached to an infantry battalion upon graduating from the Pashto language course. Cody then deployed to Afghanistan as a translator. When he returned from his deployment he was tasked out to the Department of Homeland Security where he processed classified certifications for civilian and military officials. He was honorably Discharged in August of 2014 and started school at Fresno City College. While attending FCC he was a VA work study student at the Veterans Resource Center. With the knowledge Cody had amassed regarding veterans benefits he ran for and became the first Veterans Senator in student government. Cody's main goal was to increase veteran participation on campus. Cody then ran for and won a seat for the State Center Community College Board of Trustees as the FCC Student Trustee. Cody then won a seat in the Student Senate for California Community Colleges representing the Central valley in Sacramento. While a senator he was a founding member and Vice President of the Veterans Caucus in the Senate. Cody graduated from FCC in May with my AAT in Political Science and over the summer he completed his AA in Liberal Arts. Cody was awarded the Deans Medallion of Excellence, ASG Leadership Medallion, and delivered a commencement speech at graduation. Over the summer he interned at the Fresno County Public Defender's Office. Currently Cody is a VA work study in the Fresno State Veterans Office and is the Veteran and Transfer Students officer in Associated Student Inc.
