General

What are the dates of the Summit? July 29, 30, & 31, 2020

What is the cost to attend the Summit? The Summit is FREE; there is no cost to attend, but transportation to and from Fresno State is the responsibility of the student and his/her parents/guardians.

Can I attend the Summit if I attended 2019? Applicants who attended CVELS 2019 will be put on a waitlist and notified if space becomes available.

How do I know if I have been selected to participate and what do I do next? Please check your email. All selected applicants received an email instructing them on their status and how to confirm their participation. 

Can I confirm my participation through email? No. Our confirmation form is the only way to accept your invitation. This form was sent to selected students in the acceptance email they received. Please email us if you are having issues with the form. 

If you are unable to attend the Summit, please email us to decline your invitation.

Your spot will be offered to an applicant on the waitlist if we do not receive a confirmation by Friday, June 12, 2020. The form will automatically close. 

Students

What should I expect? We have an awesome 3 days planned for you, complete with engaging workshops, hands-on activities, and social events. There won’t be much down time so no need to bring laptops or tablets.

Where will I be staying? You will be housed in one of the on-campus residence halls. Each room will have 2 students. There will be beds but linens are not provided so be sure to bring a sleeping bag and pillow as well as a bath towel! Bathrooms will be located on the same floor, just down the hall.

What do I need to bring? You’ll need a sleeping bag and a pillow (beds are provided but not linens) as well as a bath towel and toiletries. Attire for the workshops is casual; don’t forget to bring a sweatshirt or sweater because the classrooms can get chilly. 

Are meals included? Yes! All students will eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the University dining hall. The dining hall is buffet style and is all-you-can-eat. There are plenty of options to choose from to accommodate you.

What if I have a dietary restriction? Please be sure to note this restriction on the packet that will be sent out to selected students during the summer so that we can be sure to accommodate you.

I attended CVELS 2019 and am on the waitlist, do I need a Counselor Verification form? Yes, Counselor Verification forms are required for all applicants including the students on our waitlist. If spaces become available, the students on our waitlist will be accepted based on the criteria met and verified by the Counselor Verification form.

Counselors

What are the criteria for verifying student's eligibility? Students must be entering their junior or senior year of high school in Fall 2020 and have a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average. Students do not need to hold leadership positions on campus. In fact, we encourage you to nominate students that would benefit from further developing their leadership.

Is a counselor verification required for students on the waitlist? Yes, all applicants including those who attended CVELS 2019 need a counselor verification form in order to finish processing their applications.

How will students be notified if they are accepted? An email of acceptance to the student, his/her guardian, and the counselor.

Parents/Guardians

Where will my student be staying on campus and is there supervision? All students will be staying in the on-campus residence halls with 2 students to a room. Floors will be single-gender. There will be Fresno State student leaders staying in the residence halls as well to provide assistance. Professional staff will be staying on-site as well.

How will my student get to and from Fresno State? Transportation to and from Fresno State is the responsibility of the student and his/her parents/guardians. 

Is my student required to stay overnight? Yes.

What if my student gets sick or hurt while at the Summit? Staff and Fresno State student leaders will be on-site at all times. Emergency contact information will be collected from each student prior to the start of the Summit. Rest assured that appropriate care will be provided and the listed emergency contacts will be communicated with as needed.
