Graduation Checklist

Four Semesters Prior to Graduation:

1. Meet with your academic advisor to monitor your academic progress toward graduation. Be sure you are aware of the courses you still need to take and when they are offered. Some courses are only offered in the fall or spring semester...so plan accordingly!

2. Complete the Upper Division Writing Skills Requirement (after 60 and before 90 units completed).

3. Apply for a career-related job, internship, or community service.

4. Develop a working relationship with at least three faculty members. These individuals will be invaluable when you need letters of recommendation in the future.

5. If considering graduate or professional school, begin researching possible schools.

6. If considering a preprofessional path (law, dental, medical, librarianship, health, or veterinary):
-Make an appointment with a preprofessional advisor (contact the Office of Advising Services for a current list)
-Study for appropriate entrance exams
-Attend the Grad Expo.

3. If considering graduate school or a pre-professional career path:
- Meet with an academic advisor or Career Services career counselor
- Begin working on your personal statement
- Take the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or other required entrance exams

4. If considering a career in teaching:
- Meet with your credential advisor
- Begin preparing your Professional Portfolio
- Study and register for the CBEST www.cbest.nesinc.com ; the CSET www.cset.nesinc.com , and/or other required exams
- Visit the Career Services website http://www.fresnostate.edu/careers

Two Semesters Prior to Graduation:

2. Update your resume and professional portfolio. Post your resume on BulldogLink.

3. Apply for a career-related job, internship, or community service.

4. Attend the Grad Expo.

5. Apply to graduate or professional schools. Solicit letters of recommendation to accompany your school applications.

6. If considering career employment following graduation, contact Career Services to discuss employment options.

The Semester You Plan to Graduate:

1. APPLY FOR GRADUATION!!!! Be sure to submit your graduation application during the posted filing period (usually the first two weeks of the semester in which you intend to complete all degree requirements).

2. Meet with your academic advisor. (If you are a Liberal Studies major or a College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology major, be sure you meet with your major advisor to obtain your Major Approval Form.)

3. If you have received educational loans, attend the mandatory Financial Aid Exit Interview Workshop. Contact the Financial Aid Office ( Joyal Administration Building , Room 296, 559.278.2182) for exact times and locations. 

4. Clear any financial obligations to the university. Don't know if you have any? Check the "Account Summary" link in your Student Portfolio at my.fresnostate.edu .

5. If considering career employment following graduation:
- Update your personal resume and cover letter
- Continue employment interviews
- Attend job fairs

6. Select the Commencement ceremonies in which you would like to participate during the month of May. http://www.fresnostate.edu//studentaffairs/studentinvolvement/traditions/commencement.html

7. Attend the Grad Fair. Be sure to purchase your Grad Pack, cap and gown, graduation announcements, and join the Fresno State Alumni Association.

8. Schedule your graduation portraits and purchase your class ring.

9. Make hotel reservations for family and friends for graduation weekend.

10. Update your address and other contact information in your Personal Portfolio at my.fresnostate.edu .

11. Order an official transcript for your records. Be sure you request that it be sent after your degree is posted.

12. Congratulations on all you've accomplished!!

Once you graduate from Fresno State , your @mail.fresnostate.edu address will remain permanently active.


OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS
Once you graduate, you may need to submit official transcripts to future employers or graduate schools to verify your undergraduate degree. An official transcript is printed on official tamper-proof, colored, safety stationery and watermarked with the California State University , Fresno seal; signed by the Registrar, sealed in an envelope, and stamped "Official Transcript."

How do I order my transcripts? Official transcripts can be ordered online, requested in-person, or by mail. The Transcript Office is located in the Joyal Administration Building , Room 130, 559.278.4743. Click here for more information on how to order an official transcript and view required fees.

Is there a charge for my transcripts and how long will it take to process my order?
Yes, there is a small fee. It takes five to ten business days to process the transcript request. For rush orders, an additional fee is added to the transcript cost. You are encouraged to order a few copies of your official transcripts to keep for your own records.
