Checklist for Success

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Study general education requirements
  • Analyze your major requirements
  • Review your academic progress with your faculty advisor
  • Constantly read your Degree Progress Report (DPR)
  • Take a “W” course or the Upper Division Writing Exam
  • Learn to use your student center at my.fresnostate.edu (pay special attention to your To Do list)

GRADUATION CANDIDATES

  • Apply for graduation during the first week of the semester in which you plan to graduate
  • Register through your student center, pay and register for the appropriate degree
  • General Commencement-Information and materials are available in the Kennel Bookstore
  • Latino Commencement-Information is available at Social Science #108: www.csufresno.edu/LCC/
  •  College Commencement information is available at the Dean’s office of your college
  • Some special programs may also have graduation celebrations.

UNDECLARED STUDENTS  

  • Utilize Career Services at Thomas Administration #103 to explore and choose a major
  • Declare your major and/or minor at admissions window in the Joyal Building

PREPARATION FOR GRADUATE STUDIES

  • Take the GRE or required admission test based on your major: www.gre.org
  • Apply for the university where you plan to do graduate work one year in advance
  • Apply to the graduate program one year in advance
  • Contact the department of your desired graduate program to check for pre-requisites

ACADEMIC SKILLS

  • Use all library resources to be a more effective researcher                   
  • Take the CBEST if you plan to pursue an education field at any time: www.cbest.nesinc.com
  •  Take the CSET, CSET preparation information:  www.cset.nesinc.com
  • Participate in research projects with faculty members

 CAREER SERVICES

  • Develop your professional portfolio
  • Apply for career related part time employment 
  • Apply for paid and non-paid internships that offer you career related experiences: www.hnip.net
  • Get involved in student and professional organizations related to your major

 FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE  

If you are an AB 540 Student, apply for the California Dream Act at:

  • www.caldreamact.org before March 2nd every year
  • Apply for Fresno State scholarships at www.csufresno.edu/scholarships.
  • Submit all required financial aid documentation as soon as possible (Check your To Do List)
  • If you do not receive an award, contact the California Student Aid Commission and/or your college financial aid office

CONSTANTLY CHECK YOUR STUDENT CENTER AND COMPLETE ALL “TO DO” ITEMS.
