William Randolph Hearst / CSU Trustees' Award
For Outstanding Achievement

These awards recognize students who have overcome adversity, demonstrated financial need, and have attributes of merit including superior academic performance, significant personal achievements, and exemplary community service. One top applicant will be selected to represent Fresno State for consideration of the below scholarships for the 2012/2013 academic year.

  • $10,000 Ali C. Razi Scholarship
  • $6,000 Murray L. Galinson Scholarship
  • $3,000 William Randolph Hearst Scholarship

CSU-Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship
For Visually Impaired Students

The Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students was established in 1991 for legally blind students. After Mr. Schoettler's death in 2001, the California State University received a $4.8 million bequest from his estate to expand the existing financial aid program for legally blind students to all 23 CSU campuses. Forty-two scholarships of $6,500 each will be awarded for the 2012/2013 academic year.

CSU-Glenn & Dorothy Dumke Fellowship

This fellowship is to encourage student scholars to engage in graduate work in fields such as public policy, American history, economics, archival management and government. Preference will be given to projects that involve research about the State of California. The winning scholar is expected to pursue research projects within special CSU library/archival collections.

Wilson C. Riles Education Scholarship

Wilson C. Riles began his career in 1940 as a teacher, administrator, and later became the first elected African American state superintendent of schools in the United States. This scholarship recognizes his deep commitment to education through support of students enrolled in California State University teacher credential programs. Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2012/2013 academic year.

California Society of Municipal Finance Officers
Robert M. Odell Scholarship in Public Administration

The Robert M. Odell scholarship fund was established in April 1987 to honor the former city treasurer of Los Angeles. The scholarships are awarded to CSU campuses offering degree programs in public administration. Four $1,600 scholarships will be awarded for the 2012/2013 academic year.

Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship

Every year, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards 51 Fellowships of $5,000 each and 5 at $15,000 each to members entering their first year of graduate or professional study. For more information click here.

Keiko H. Weitzman Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship fund is (1) to encourage students to continue their study of the Japanese language and (2) to encourage students to continue their graduate study of linguistics.  Two scholarships will be awarded for the academic year 2012-2013.  The amount of each award is expected to be about $600.  The awards will be made available in Fall 2012. The application deadline is May 14, 2012. The requirements are as follows:


JAPANESE LANGUAGE STUDY

  1. This scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students in any major.
  2. Applicants must have at least a 3.2 grade point average.
  3. Applicants must have completed at least one year (at least 6 units) of Japanese study before the academic year in which the award begins.
  4. Applicants must submit with their applications a narrative about themselves and how the study of Japanese fits into their career goals.
  5. The awardee must enroll in a Japanese language course during the academic year for which the scholarship is awarded.

GRADUATE LINGUISTICS STUDY

  1. Undergraduate seniors who expect to enter the graduate linguistics program in academic year 2012-2013, as well as all graduate students in linguistics who will be registered in academic year 2012-2013 are eligible to apply.
  2. Applicants must have an overall grade point average of at least 3.4.
  3. Applicants must submit with their applications a narrative about themselves and what career goals they are aiming for in either general or applied linguistics.

  • Apply online at https://scholarship.csufresno.edu/Default.asp
  • Select the “check-box” question (on 2nd page of the scholarship application) that asks “Studying Japanese language or pursuing Graduate Linguistics.”
  • Electronically submit your completed application by May 14, 2012.

Please Note: Applicants may not apply for both scholarships.
