Kizzy Lopez earned her Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2006 and fall of 2008 earned her Master’s in Educational Counseling at National University. She currently serves as the coordinator of the Renaissance Scholars Program which serves former foster youth attending California State University, Fresno (Fresno State).
During her graduate work, Kizzy volunteered as a counselor intern in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at California State University, Fresno. She was then hired has an EOP counselor after one semester. It was at the university that Kizzy found her professional passion in supporting former foster youth attending college. As a former foster youth herself, Kizzy understands first-hand the challenges her student’s face and has dedicated her professional career to improving the educational outcomes for current and former foster youth.
Kizzy maintains an active agenda advocating and examining the needs of current and former foster youth in higher education. She sits on multiple committees and advisory boards in the fields of child welfare and higher education locally and statewide. Kizzy is a motivational speaking for foster youth; and facilitates numerous workshops, lectures, and participates on panels in order to increase awareness and educate others about the needs of this population.
