The Department of Nursing offers a six-semester program that leads to the bachelor’s degree in nursing. The program is licensed by the California Board of Registered Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. A minimum of 127 semester units is required for the degree. Students should consult the university’s General Catalog for nursing degree requirements. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for the National Council
Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEXRN) and the California Public Health Nurse Certificate. High school students preparing for a career in nursing should take biology, chemistry, and the additional college preparatory courses required for CSU admission.

In an age when health issues dominate the news and the need for health providers keeps growing, this college prepares its students for the rigors of the 21st century.

Whether tackling such issues as obesity, aging or environmental health, this college and its faculty focuses on staying up-to-date on the latest information impacting the world of health and how to meet those challenges. The college’s departments include nursing; public health; physical therapy; and communicative disorders and deaf studies. In addition, the college broadens its scope to related fields, such gerentology, kinesiology, social work education and recreation administration.

The grants-winning faculty also keeps close ties to the professional community, which generates plenty of opportunities for students to learn through practical training and internships. The college also uses internet-based communication and instruction to meet the modern-day needs of today’s students.
