Keep yourself from getting sick.

Prevention is the Key

In our efforts to reduce the spread of influenza, we are urging the campus community to take preventive measures to protect everyone’s health. Because flu can spread by contact with people who are ill, we recommend that we all take these precautions.

  • When possible, get a flu shot. It takes approximately two weeks for the body to develop an immune response following the vaccination. Fresno County Public Health also offers FREE OR LOW COST flu shots to those who qualify. In addition, here is the web link to CDC’s Flu Vaccine Finder.
  • Practice prevention by washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer frequently in the absence of soap and water, especially after touching common surfaces such as door handles, desks, etc. Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing with either a disposable tissue or a sleeve, and avoid touching your face. Avoid contact with people who are sick. Get plenty of rest to keep the immune system working at its best.

When the Student Health Center is closed, students may call the Health Center at 559.278.2734 to speak with an After Hours Advice Nurse. The Advice Nurse is available to provide basic
healthcare advice.
