Students must be present for the entire orientation in order to be cleared for registration. No exceptions. Students who arrive excessively late will be turned away and re-scheduled.
Orientation begins promptly at 8:00 am. Check-in begins at 7:00am.
During the new student orientation students will learn about university policies and procedures. Students will meet with Academic Counselors and Peer Advisors to learn about General Education, Major Advising, and their chosen College/School in preparation for class registration.
Students who wish to meet with Financial Aid or Admissions should plan to arrive early to meet with them prior to their scheduled Dog Day. During the summer university offices open at 7:00am.
One-Day Freshman Dog Day
The one-day program is our traditional orientation program. The program begins at 8:00am and concludes at 4:30pm. During the course of the day students will receive information regarding Fresno State policies and support programs. Students will meet with Academic Counselors from their specific College/School as well as an adviser from their chosen major. The orientation day concludes with class registration for the upcoming fall semester.
Two-Day Freshman Dog Day
The two-day program is a more comprehensive orientation encompassing all the programming from the one-day program as well as student life and social justice programming. The program lasts from 8:00am - 4:30pm on the first day and continues from 8:00am - 12:00pm on the second day. Class registration occurs at the conclusion of the second day giving students more time to plan their class schedule. There is programming for any student guests on the first day of the program. Guests are not permitted on the second day of the two-day orientation.
Two-Day Freshmen Dog Day with Overnight
The Overnight program is the optional evening program associated with the two-day program. This program focuses on getting involved and becoming better acquainted with Fresno State. Students spend the evening in the University Courtyard with Dog Days staff and participate in programming facilitated by the Office of Student Involvement. During the overnight, students will be assisted with class planning by the orientation staff. The overnight program is for students only and space is limited.
