The goal of the California State University (CSU) Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Initiative is to improve college access and graduation achievement for Asian American and Pacific Islander students from underserved communities.
To achieve these goals the CSU AAPI Initiative developed the AAPI Ambassdor Program and Journey to Success.
In 2011, the Initiative began hosting several college fairs for AAPI families named "Journey to Success." The events held at CSU campuses, provide families, students, community and religious leaders with information about college preparation, planning and financial aid.
Journey to Success is an educational, cultural, and empowering event for Asian American Pacific Islander Students and Parents. During this event, the CSU Fresno AAPI Initiative partnered with the Hmong, Lao, Khmer, Vietnamese, and other API communities to bring over 450 local AAPI high school students and their families.
Student Ambassadors are trained liaisons and resources to the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. This program identifies and implements strategies that would increase recruitment, retention, and graduation rates. The goals of the Student Ambassadors is to outreach to students, share information, provide mentorship, and support for student success at Fresno State. Student Ambassadors are dedicated to working with AAPI students.
