Scholarships

The Geography, City & Regional Planning Department offers a number of scholarships to qualified students and Geography, City & Regional Planning majors. These scholarships recognize need, promise and achievement in a broad range of activities related to planning. Recipients are selected during the Spring Semester and the scholarships are awarded for the Fall Semester beginning in 2015.  Students must be registered with the Fresno State Scholarship Office in order to be eligible for Geography, City & Regional Planning scholarship awards.  A link to the Fresno State Scholarship Office application is below:

The Geography, City & Regional Planning Department offers the following scholarships that are awarded based on the evaluation of student applications.

Granville Homes Scholars

Granville Homes established scholarships that recognize talented undergraduate students seeking careers in Geography, City & Regional Planning who demonstrate high scholastic achievement.  One hundred thousand dollars will be awarded to eligible students.  Requirements to receive the scholarships include:

  • Each recipient shall be enrolled as a full time student at Fresno State.
  • Each recipient must be engaged in either an option or major offered within the Department of Geography and City and Regional Planning.
  • Each recipient must have an overall GPA of 2.75 or better (measured on a 4-point scale).  The weight to be given to a candidate’s grade point average in the selection of recipients shall be determined by the selection committee in its discretion.
  • Recipients shall have financial need as determined by the Scholarship Office in its discretion.

Recipients of scholarships awarded hereunder shall be known as “Granville Homes Scholars of the Department of Geography, City and Regional Planning.”                                   

Luanne Silkwood Scholars

Ms. Luanne Silkwood established scholarships that encourage undergraduate students to seek careers in Geography, City & Regional Planning.  One hundred thousand dollars will be awarded to eligible students.  Requirements to receive the scholarships include:

  • Student(s) must be majoring within the Geography and City and Regional Planning Department within the College of Social Sciences.
  • Student(s) must possess a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.

Penstar Group Scholars

The Penstar Group established scholarships that support undergraduate students seeking careers in Geography, City & Regional Planning.  Fifty thousand dollars will be awarded to eligible students.  Requirements to receive the scholarships include:

  • Student(s) must be majoring within the Geography, City and Regional Planning Department within the College of Social Sciences.
  • Student(s) must possess a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.

McCaffrey Knowlton Scholars

Robert and Karen McCaffrey, Brent McCaffrey and Ash Knowlton established scholarships for students studying Geography, City & Regional Planning.  Twenty five thousand dollars will be awarded to eligible students.  Requirements to receive the scholarships include:

  • Student(s) must be majoring within the Geography, City and Regional Planning Department within the College of Social Sciences.
  • Student(s) must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Bonadelle Homes Scholars

Bonadelle Homes established scholarships for students studying Geography, City & Regional Planning.  Twenty thousand dollars will be awarded to eligible students.  Requirements to receive the scholarships include:

  • Student(s) must be majoring within the Geography, City and Regional Planning Department within the College of Social Sciences.
  • Student(s) must possess a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.
