How do I become a secondary social science/history teacher?

The state of California requires teachers earn a teaching credential in Social Science/History in order to teach those subjects in a secondary school (7th – 12th grade).

To obtain a social science teaching credential at Fresno State, students must first complete the following prerequisites BEFORE being admitted to the Credential Program.

Prerequisites

2) EHD 50: Introduction to Teaching (3 units), Equivalent Course, OR Pre-Program Experience Waiver

3) CI 149: Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology (3 units)

4) Take and pass the California Educator Credentialing Examination (CBEST)

5) Subject Matter Competency (Choose one of the following two options)

OPTION A – Take and Pass the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET: Social Science)

OR
