Face Coverings for Essential Employees

Posted on April 13, 2020

We greatly appreciate our staff who continue to provide necessary and critical functions on campus during this time. Fortunately, most of our staff who are working on campus do not require full personal protective equipment (PPE). However, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, Fresno State employees who are working on campus should follow the recommendation of the Fresno County Department of Public Health and the order by the City of Fresno by wearing a face covering.

The Fresno County Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control are asking individuals to wear fabric face coverings that are reusable after washing, while outside their residences. It is recommended to clean the coverings with hot water and soap, and keep a few on hand so that one is always available for use.

If you do not have the resources to make a face covering and need one provided to you, the Student Health & Counseling Center has some available. A mask may be picked up at the triage table set up outside the main doors of the building. We have also purchased a limited number of disposable masks for visitors and third-party vendors.

Face coverings should be worn by essential employees who are working on campus beginning Wednesday, April 15.

Acceptable cloth face coverings could include a bandana, scarf or other fabric-based options. Watch this short video on how to make a no-sew cloth face covering.

Remember that these fabric face coverings do not provide complete protection from incoming droplets, so complying with the prevention guidelines remains important. The best precautions against COVID-19 still include: practicing good hand hygiene, keeping all surfaces disinfected, staying at home, and modeling social distancing when doing essential tasks away from home.

Thank you for all your efforts to keep yourself and others safe.
