Synopsis: |
Physics is the most fundamental and all-inclusive of the physical sciences and plays a role in understanding all phenomena. Physics relies heavily on math, so be aware that this course assumes a working knowledge of algebra and trigonometry, as well as some basic calculus. Physics is taught through concepts and through the working of problems and both the conceptual and computational aspects will be in covered in the exams. There is a traditional amount of material that must be covered in this course, which corresponds to 16 chapters in a very short amount of time! So it is highly advised that you stay current in the readings and homework sets. |

GE specifications: |
Goal for Area B1: Physical Science To understand and actively explore fundamental principles in the Physical Sciences and the methods of developing and testing hypotheses used in the analysis of the physical universe. Student Learning Outcomes for Area B1: Physical Science Students completing courses in Area B1 will be able to: 1. Explicate the laws governing the materials of the physical universe as well as the distribution of those materials and the processes applicable to them 2. Apply mathematical methods to scientific problems |

Homework: |
A set of problems will
be assigned at somewhat irregular intervals but will always be due before We will using the online homework service Webassign at http://webassign.net.
To obtain access to
this resource you will need to register online using the access code that
came with your text book (or if you purchased a used book you will need to
purchase access through Webassign). To find my course, go to the login page
and click “I have a class key” and enter the following: csufresno 0275 5059 and
then follow the directions to create an account and access this class. Note
that you can use Webassign for about a week or so without purchase. There is a strong correlation between those who complete the homework sets and those who obtain the high grades in this class. Policy on late homework: late homework will not be accepted, except for a documented serious and compelling reason. |

|
Class Participation: |
We will use an in-class response system. Every student must purchase an iclicker unit.
Each day multiple choice questions will be asked of the class throughout the lecture. You will be asked to respond using the clicker and each individual response will be recorded and count towards your final grade. These questions will come from the text book readings, homework, or concepts discussed in class. |

Exams and Final: |
There will be three exams and a comprehensive final. If an exam is missed for a documented serious and compelling reason (e.g., signed doctor's excuse), that exam will be recorded as the average of your other exam scores. If a second exam is missed for an equally serious reason, a make up exam will be held at time and place of the instructor's discretion. There will be no make up for the final. Equation sheets will be provided during the exams. Please bring only pencils and calculators to the exams. Final Exam: Tuesday December 14 01:15P-03:15P |
